Children's Shopping Spree!

Our annual event where we take kids back to school shopping!

Young adults serving the community Active 20-30 club inspires young adults to make a difference!

Three local Active 20-30 clubs, Sebastopol #63, Petaluma #30, and North Bay #656 teamed up to send 80 children from Rohnert Park, Petaluma, and West County on a back to school shopping trip to remember.

The much anticipated Children's Shopping Spree took place at Kohl's in Petaluma, early morning on Saturday, August 13th. Children's Shopping Spree, a national Active 20-30 club event takes children back to school shopping. Over 75 volunteers took local kids back to school shopping in preparation for the beginning of the school year.

Children were also given new backpacks filled with school pencils, pens, paper, markers, and other school supplies. When the children were finished shopping, local volunteer hairstylists were on hand to offer haircuts. In addition, children, parents, and volunteers were provided a hearty breakfast donated by Sally Tomatoes.

Petaluma Active 20-30 Landscapes McDowell Elementary School

Club’s First Community Project Can Be Seen by Hundreds Who Drive S. McDowell Blvd Daily

Petaluma, CA – Dec. 14, 2009 – Petaluma Active 20-30 proudly completed its first community project Dec. 6, planting more than a few seeds for growth at McDowell Elementary School. Ten volunteers, including McDowell Elementary Principal Maureen Rudder, contributed more than 70 volunteer hours to landscape the main and south entrances of the school.

“We hope our efforts to beautify the frontage of McDowell Elementary will help instill pride and confidence in the students,” said Wade Call, president of Petaluma Active 20-30. “Everyone deserves to be proud of their school.”

After consulting professional landscapers on the best planting options, club members stocked the grounds with more than 150 native grasses, colorful plants, shrubs and bulbs. The entire area was finished with 10 yards of compost and 15 yards of mulch. The project received a boost from several local businesses, which provided discounts on the landscaping materials.

“I can't thank the Petaluma Active 20-30 Club enough for all the labor, plants, and supplies that were put into last Sunday's project at McDowell School,” said Rudder. “With ever declining financial resources, this landscaping project would not have been possible this year or in the near future. The staff, students, and families of McDowell School appreciate the support of this civic minded group.”

The full impact of the project will be felt this spring, when all the plants and bulbs are in full bloom. Petaluma Active 20-30 thanks Cottage Gardens, Sonoma Compost and Guerilla Nursery and Landscape, for their discounts, donations and expertise during the project.

After initially chartering in 1928, Petaluma Active 20-30 was recently re-chartered in August 2009 to provide local 20-39 year olds opportunity for personal growth, friendship, and leadership development. Through fundraising, volunteering and mentoring, all club activities are aimed toward improving the quality of life for children in the local community.
